Understanding your costs
Knowing what your plan covers can make prescription costs easier to understand. Your out-of-pocket amount depends on the medicine, dispensing fees and the coverage available to you.
How Fair PharmaCare works
Fair PharmaCare helps eligible B.C. families pay for prescription medicines and certain other health costs. Assistance is based on family income.
- Deductible: the amount your family pays toward eligible costs each year before the plan begins contributing.
- Family maximum: once your family reaches this amount, the plan pays the full eligible costs for the rest of the calendar year.
- These amounts apply to eligible costs. Some medicines or charges may not be covered.
What if I have private insurance?
You may still benefit from Fair PharmaCare if you have an employer or private drug plan. Coverage and claim arrangements depend on your plan. Bring your insurance card or plan details, and ask which costs you may need to pay.
Some medicines require approval before PharmaCare can cover them. Ask about coverage before filling a new prescription.
Getting registered
Use the B.C. government's health and drug coverage application, linked below, to register for Fair PharmaCare. Follow the government's instructions, including completing any required income-verification consent.
Before your next refill
Have your BC Services Card, insurance details and medication name ready. Tell us if your insurance has changed or the cost is making it difficult to obtain your medicine.
Call Caring Pharmacy to discuss your prescription costs and next steps. Please do not email prescriptions, identification documents or personal health information.
